A key challenge called for designing a facility that complements, but stands apart from the adjacent College of Lake County buildings. A formal brick facade responds. The brick matches the color of other campus buildings, yet is positioned in different patterns. Designers devoted a great deal of attention to exterior masonry details, and Illinois Masonry Corp. played an important role in making this a reality. Bands of protruding lighter brick run through the brown brick. Also, alternating bands of recessed, level, and protruding brick wrap around each corner. At the entry, a pattern of small glass block panels in the masonry exposes light at night.
